The Ordinary Skincare – First Impressions

TheOrdinarySkincare_Hero_620x349

Unless you have been sat comfy under a rock, the hottest skincare brand EVERYONE is talking about is The Ordinary. Why you ask? Well, they part of Deciem (a humble and happy umbrella of good beauty brands in thier words!) and have launched an extremely affordable, no-nonesnse range of hard-working skincare. There’s no fliff faff with this brand, they get straight down to business with the science of what is IN each product – not an airbrushed model in sight. Interested? Cool, read on!

When you first take a look at what products are available, it can make you think why you didn’t listen more in science at school, but if you are serious about tackling specific issues with your skin and you know what you need, this won’t be an issue. Also, remember google is your friend!

I picked up 3 products just to get a feel for the brand.

Vitamin C Suspension 23% + HA Spheres 2% – 30ml priced €5.80

DSC00374Vitamin C is full of antioxidants and has been shown to prevent and treat UV damage. Ageing and over-exposure to pollutants cause a decline in this vitamin within the body, so a topical cream should definitely be included in your skincare regimen.

First of all, I love that this product comes in a tube. It’s a product that not “enjoyable” to use if that makes sense, basically as it does feel a bit gritty on the skin. This is because the Vitamin C is in powder form – which in fact is the best potent formula to use. I’ve used other Vitamin C products in the past which has a very “silicone feel”, I know now this was due to “filler” added to the product. I found this product can leave the skin feeling a little greasy until it sinks in, so I keep this just for nighttime use.

Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% – 30ml priced €5.90

Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) has been shown to reduce the appearance of blemishes and help with congestion. This serum includes a high concentration of 10% and can be used morning and/or evening under your usual moisturiser. I had a small breakout on my chin area, and after using just twice, I noticed they cleared much faster than usual! This is not a treatment product for acne, but it will help dry up the occasional breakout and help reduce any scarring from previous breakouts.

“Buffet” – 30ml priced €14.80

If you are going to try out at least ONE product from the range, you really can’t go far wrong with “Buffet”. As the name suggests, this is a like a little cocktail of some seriously good stuff, all in one. Packed inside is a lot of long names I can’t even pronounce but one that stood out for me was Syn-Ake peptide complex – it’s made with a peptide found in snake venom! There’s also 11 other amino acids and multiple hyaluronic acid complexes – eh hello hydration????!! Again, use AM and/or PM under your usual moisturiser.

Packaging:

Minimal and sleek. Both the “Buffet” and the Niacinamide are housed in frosted glass bottle with a pipette for dispensing. The bottles are not the usual dark brown glass I would usually expect from skincare with these types of ingredients, so I’d advise keeping in a drawer well away from any direct sunlight to promote longevity of the ingredients.

Price point:

Unreal! For products that have some serious shit in there, literally any budget can afford to at least try these out. When you buy direct from the website, there’s free shipping on all orders over €25.

Where to find:

I directly bought from the website, and while I’m not sure of many stockists in Ireland, Mise Beauty do stock in both stores at Navan & Dundalk.

Would I re-purchase?

So far I cannot fault the brand, it’s too early to see results but to be able to include ingredients you just won’t find in your usual budget skincare brand, is not something to be sniffed at! Next on the list for me will be the Advanced Retinoid 2% & Retinol 1%. They also offer 30ml of cold-pressed Argan Oil for €7 – hair fans of the very expensive Moroccan Oil might want to stock up!

Have you tried anything from the brand yet?

If you’re thinking of trying out a few products and are a little lost to what all the jargon means, I’d be happy to help – just drop me an email!

Such a timely review! I was recently watching Wayne Goss on YouTube and he was raving about this brand.
I picked up High Adherence Silicone Primer & High-Spreadability Fluid Primer as I am currently on the hunt for a great primer! Still awaiting delivery but excited for them
