The Olfactory – Top 3 Male Fragrances

My second guest male blogger of this weeks #malebloglove series is Thom from The House of Man. Over the past few months I’ve been actively looking for more male beauty bloggers to follow and I came across Thom’s blog through Twitter. When I clicked onto his blog I was instantly pulled by his fellow love of skin care as I love hearing the male perspective on it and how it works for them. Whether male or female, make sure you check out The House of Man blog here and give him a follow on Twitter too!

The Olfactory

Men are complex and sophisticated creatures … Men are tricky to buy for – Fact. Men are even trickier when it comes to fragrance – Double fact…

Did you know that the right scent can attract women? Just like the smell of an amazing piece of leather or our favourite food cooking in the oven, we’re enticed by scents we like. Whether you’re on the hunt for a signature scent for yourself or if you’re a lady looking for the right fragrance for him, here are The House Of Man’s top three.

Tom Ford Neroli Portofino

When? – Day/ Evening/Summer

Why? Now this is the most luxurious of the three and is my favourite! This is a fabulous cologne with a cool crisp citrus zing that instantly refreshes and awakens the senses. With its fresh sparkling blend of citrus, floral and amber notes Neroil Portofino will always be the perfect fragrance for summer. With each sniffed you will have visions of a picturesque Italian Riviera; hear the waves of a crystal clear sea and feel the heat of the Mediterranean sun on the nape of your neck … it’s a refined but fantastic cologne and a great fragrance to receive. Paco Rabanne 1 Million

When? – Evening/Night Out

Why? Who doesn’t want to feel like a million dollars?! Despite having citrus top notes, the most prominent notes are amber, leather and cinnamon, creating a deliciously prominent aura of masculine confidence and sexiness. It’s a stunning fragrance and my all-time guilty secret, shh … But a word to the wise, this is potent stuff so don’t drown yourself in it; I don’t want to be able to taste your fragrance from across the room.

Boss Bottled

When? – Day/Office/Evening

Why? This is a simple but elegant and stylish male fragrance. Boss Bottled is an oriental fragrance; with notes of apple and citrus fruits with hints of cinnamon and cloves. The dry down is rich in dry spicy scents of sandalwood, vetiver, amber and musk; all distinctly masculine. This is a classic fragrance suitable for any occasion. To me it evokes an image of a sophisticated, rugged but well-groomed man. Then longevity of this fragrance is exceptional – I spray it in the morning and I can still find it in the evening. This is a definite for any man who means business.

Top Tip:

One thing to remember when you’re looking for a new fragrance is not to smell too many at once! Spraying more than 3 fragrances in an instant can de-senitise the nose, meaning that all fragrances will eventually smell the same! And it best to hit the shops early in the morning – before 11am; as your nose doesn’t have to compete with the accumulated odours that build up during the day.

So … What is your favourite fragrance of all time?
