Pestle & Mortar | Pure Hyaluronic Serum

DSC_0204

You may have heard a few things recently about this new Irish brand – Pestle and Mortar Cosmetics. They were featured on TV3’s Xpose and numerous magazines columns over the past couple of months. Having set up business in 2014, they launched their first skin care product in the form of a Pure Hyaluronic Serum*.

A little about the company..

Pestle and Mortar Cosmetics is an Irish family-owned company set up by Sonia Deasy, working closely with her sister who owns a degree in biochemistry and a masters in science. Sonia’s husband is a professional photographer, and from this she noticed that under the harsh glare of studio lights and under a photographer’s lens, the skin can sometimes look dry, dull and patchy. She too also had this issue through frequent long-haul flights. Together Sonia and her sister, set about developing a solution through carefully selected ingredients to target this specific problem.

What is Pure Hyaluronic Serum?

Pure Hyaluronic Serum is 100% free of animal derived raw materials, paraben free, fragrance free and not tested on animals. It of course contains Hyaluronic Acid which is proven to smooth and hydrate the skin, whilst smoothing fine lines and restoring youthful elasticity. The smooth concentrate also targets dullness and dehydration, and restores the skin with a healthy glow. It also contains vitamin E known to protect and strengthen the skin’s barrier function.

How I found the serum…

I was kindly sent this serum back in October. This was a totally new product that I had heard nothing about, so I wasn’t too sure as to what expectations to have. As with any skincare product, I like to give a good 6-8 weeks of proper use to really see if the product it suitable for my skin and most importantly, if it gives the results it promises.

The serum itself is packaged beautifully, housed in a glass 30ml dropper bottle and a cylindrical outer packaging, It looks very luxurious indeed! The serum is not a typical serum-like texture, I had never used a product quite like it before. It’s is quite watery in texture but slides so easily over the skin. The bottle comes with a standard dropper, and honestly 1-2 drops is sufficient to cover your face. The product sinks into the skin within a matter of seconds, leaving you free to apply your moisturiser on top straight away. They state that it can also be used as a primer under makeup but I really didn’t find it suitable for that.

I used this morning and night on freshly cleansed skin and within 2 weeks or so, I could really see an improvement in my skin hydration. I suffer badly from dry skin in Winter, especially around the nose area and on my cheeks. This was the first time I didn’t have to resort to hydrating masks each week to keep the flakies at bay, my skin really felt much more supple and soft. With the fine lines, I really didn’t notice a change in them. I wasn’t expecting it to be honest – I don’t think there is yet a miracle product that will work on these!

Overall I really enjoy using this serum and as you can see from the photos, I have used just under half of the bottle with everyday use for nearly 3 months. If you suffer from dry or dehydrated skin I think this will really help supercharge your skin care routine through the harsh months, and its a just a quick step twice a day.

It is priced at €42.99 for 30ml but it will easily last you at least 6-9 months with everyday use. You can purchase the Pure Hyaluronic Serum directly from the Pestle and Mortar website, and it is slowly being released to other outlets nationwide this year.

Thanks so much for reading.

Much love,

Leanne xx

*PR Sample, with an honest review as always.

Thanks for your comment Betty! I literally try just use 1 drop each time and seems to be enough for me. I’ve used half bottle in 3 months. Maybe try 1 drop morning and 2 at night? Might help it last a little longer 🙂

I was excited about this product, but after using it for about 4 weeks, I have realized that my skin is more dry than ever. I don’t believe this product actually works. It feels nice when you apply it, but that would be it.
