Pestle & Mortar | Hydrate Moisturiser Review

DSC_0362_Fotor

Today’s post is about the newest addition to Irish brand Pestle & Mortar. You may have read my post last year on their Hyaluronic Serum (see here) now I’m reviewing their ‘Hydrate” Moisturiser*. I’ve been using this for over a month now and I have to say I’m really loving it!

What’s inside?

Lots of great skin loving ingredients such as Green Tea, Vitamin E, Pomegrante & Jojoba Oil. An interesting ingredient is Squalane and this is naturally produced by our bodies. In laymans terms it’s a lipid produced by human skin cells and makes up around 10% of our sebum. This age-fighting emollient started to deteriorate after we reach 30 ( I need it in buckets so!!) which is contributes to drying skin. Also packed into this moisturiser is Tri and Tetrapeptide technology which stimulates collagen production, restores skin’s firmness and elasticity. This basically reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

Formulation and how to use?

The formula is beautifully creamy and actually feels like a mix between a moisturiser and a serum, which just sinks into the skin. This is a light moisturiser, making it perfect to wear under makeup and won’t clog pores. Formulated to suit all skin types, it’s free from parabens, mineral oils, silicones, sulphates & synthetic fragrances. It actually smells divine, not overly scented but more of a type of scent you get at a spa….if this at all makes sense? There is no SPF contained in this so just keep that in mind, and pop your usual SPF on top. I like to use this at night too when my skin dosen’t need anything too heavy duty, and I usually seal it into the skin with a facial oil over the top.

Packaging

As with the Hyaluonic Serum, the packaging is feels very luxe and comes housed  in a cylindrical holder. Inside this is the moisturiser itself and I just love that it’s not a regular pot you dip your fingers into. Hats off to Sonia who put the thought into this, and came up with a hygienic lid that you simply press down on, and the right amount for each use is released. With the contents being totally airtight, all the ingredients will stay fresh for as long as possible.

Price and stockists

‘Hydrate’ is priced at €48 for 50ml, which is at a price point just below the likes of Lancome, Estee Lauder and some other high-end brands. With no wastage due to the unique packaging, I think it’s a very reasonable price. You can buy directly from the Pestle & Mortar website or you can find a local stockist here.

I have to say, it’s fantastic to see a new Irish brand do so well and I cannot wait to see what next in line!

Have you tried this yet? If so let me know how you got on!

I haven’t tried this yet but I definitely want to. The reason I haven’t yet is purely because I haven’t been able to test it – I am worried it will be like Hydraluron jelly, which I really didn’t like and at €48, I don’t want to make a mistake! Do you know if they are similar? xx

No this is not similar at all. The consistency of this is very creamy yet light on the skin. I didn’t like the jelly either X

I’ve been toying with the idea of getting this for my birthday next month. Thanks for the review as I wasn’t too sure especially at €48…so I think I’ll put it on the wishlist now haha

I received my Hydrate Moisturiser today and was very excited to try. The one thing I have noticed is that it soaked into my skin straight away which is a positive thing for me. As this is only day 1 I will keep you updated as time goes on. It was beautifully packaged and had some samples in there plus a headband which I thought was a really nice touch.
