Over the last few weeks I have been spending less money on make-up and focusing more on building up some good skincare products. NeoStrata is a brand that until a few months ago I had never taken much notice of. In the July ChicTreat box we received the Bionic Face Cream, and on reading a bit more into the product line, I knew this was a brand I wanted to delve into more. Since using the Face Cream, I have also purchased the Foaming Glycolic Facewash. Below I will give you my thoughts on both products.
Bionic Face Cream
Whist it’s called a “cream”, it is very much emollient in texture. When I first tried this on the back of my hand, I kind of wondered how this would moisturise at all – think Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream texture!
When I first used it that night after cleansing, I noticed that you need just a teeny amount of this – smaller than your baby fingernail. This spreads like silk over your skin, I had never used anything like it at all. It sinks right in and does not leave any residue or stickiness, your skin just feels amazing afterwards! Ii have also used this under makeup and it didn’t effect the longevity of my foundation whatsoever.
The science part….
So what makes this so special? Well firstly it contains 8% Gluconolactone and 4% Lactobionic Acid. In Layman’s terms, Gluconolactone is a molecule that is naturally attracted to water. When applied to the skin, these molecules pull moisture from the air and allow it to be absorbed into the skin. In addition, they also act as a barrier on the skin, preventing any moisture already present from evaporating. Lactobionic Acid is derived from milk sugar and helps prevent and reverse the appearance of photoaging, lines and wrinkles, enlarged pores, skin roughness and uneven pigmentation.
This Face Cream is perfect for anyone who has had a chemical peel, laser facial rejuvenation, microdermabrasion etc as it is helps to heal the skin aswell as keep it hydrated. But for general use, it make an absolutly fantastic moisturiser, especially is you suffer from dry or dehydrated skin.
This IS pricey in terms of moisturisers and the tube contains only 40ml. BUT in saying that, you do need to use very little product so it will last you quite a long time. I have been using this for nearly 3 months now and I’m probably only half way through the tube. This will be a definite re-purchase for me. The overall look of my skin is much smoother, a lot clearer and not a patch of dry skin in sight.
Foaming Glycolic Face Wash
I always use my hot cloth cleansers each night to take all my make-up off, but no matter how well I cleansed, I still was getting clogged pores around my chin and nose. In turn I would get those dreaded huge “hive-like” spots that hurt like hell! While I was chatting to Kat from DollyRouge one night (she really knows her stuff when it comes to skincare!) she recommended this face wash. I was using the generic scrubby facescrubs to try clear my pores, when really I was just making matters worse.
This face wash contains a whopping 18% Glycolic Acid and is not recommended for anyone with sensitive skin. To some people even the word Glycolic Acid sounds harsh and scary when in fact it helps stimulate collagen and smooth the surface of the skin. It also includes Lactobionic Acid like the face cream and it’s main use here is to stimulate cell renewal. This is what exfoliates your skin without the use of any scrubbing beads.
I use this face wash every night after I cleanse and I would recommend you fully remove all your make-up before applying it, and massage into clean skin. It’s also really important to ensure it is well rinsed off your skin. For the first 3-4 days of use I did notice a slight tingling on the skin when I used it but this did pass. After about 5 days, my chin area felt very rough to touch but not noticeably so. After this phase your skin starts to really even out in texture and I found a drastic improvement in both my acne and pores. I can see this becoming a staple in my skincare routine and I have never had the need to use any manual exfoliator since I started using this.
I think my next purchase will be the Bionic Serum – this would be a great addition to go alongside the Bionic Face Cream, espcially coming into the Winer months.
It’s great to come across a skincare line that actually works and NeoStrata have really impressed me. Whilst you wont find flashy adverts on TV or fancy packaging, it’s the no-frills approach from them that I love and their products will always do exactly as they promise.
The Bionic Face Cream is priced at €44.95 and the Foaming Face Wash is €29.95. You can purchase these and more from the NeoStrata line at Dolledup.ie.
Is this a brand that you would like to try or have you already used some of their products? How did you get on with them?
Much love x
