Everyone seems to be jumping on the whole “gel like shine” bandwagon and the latest to do so is Max Factor. Personally I don’t wear gel nails – they are just not for me but I do love a good high-shine varnish with lasting power. Too much to ask? Well the new range from Max Factor promise just that. The new varnish line is called Gel Shine Lacquer* and there are 9 vivid shades to choose from.
The story behind the colour palette for these nail varnishes is that they chose a true modern twist on classic colours that defined fashion make-up throughout the decades. The collection includes 1950’s Red, 1970’s Blues, 1980’s Brights and 1990’s Burgundy.
The whole collection includes:
- Vivid Vermillion
- Patent Poppy (amazing Summer colour)
- Radiant Ruby
- Twinkling Pink (my favourite!)
- Sparkling Berry (perfect for the festive season!)
- Sheen Merlot (beautiful for Autumn / Winter)
- Glazed Cobalt
- Gleaming Teal
- Lacquered Violet

I can only compare the formula to something you would find from the likes of Chanel. It is amazing! You would easily get away with just applying one coat as they are so pigmented and literally just glide onto your nails. They fill in any ridges on your nails leaving a really smooth look.
Wearability and Finish:
They state that your nails will stay chip-free for up to 7 days. The most I got from these was 4 days before I found some wearing around the top of the nail. I do have my hands in water a lot throughout the day so this may have been a factor and also I didn’t use a top coat. I am sure you would easily get the 7 days with a good top coat. The finish on these is lovely and shiny and if you use two coats it definitely will give the “gel shine” look.
The only let down for me here was the brush. I suppose most nail varnish that I use is Rimmel and this is because I just adore the shape of the brush and makes applying the varnish a breeze. These have the standard straight brush which I found a little fiddly but that’s just a personal pet hate for me. Other than that, I loved these. The colour range is something you won’t find in most drugstore brands and the formula really is something else.
For the season that’s in it I would recommend trying out the Sheen Merlot and Sparkling Berry, these were just made for Autumn / Winter! They are available now and retail for around €10.49.
Much love x
