I have read about MAC Fix + for many years, wondering if it was a bit of a gimmick or was it really something that make-up artists keep in their kit. When I was in BT2 in Blanchardstown, I decided I would pick up the travel size, just to try it out. For the record, you can only buy travel size MAC products in BT Grafton St, so I ended up buying the full size bottle instead.
I had read many reviews stating that this was a makeup setting spray and others saying that it’s a skin refresher spray. In my opinion it’s not a setting spray as such, but helps keep your makeup looking fresh.
What is marketed as?
MAC Fix + is described as an “aqua spritz of vitamins and minerals, infused with a calm-the-skin blend of green tea, chamomile and cucumber, topped off with the fresh scent of Sugi. I have no idea what Sugi is – if anyone knows please fill me in! It states on the packaging that it is a “skin refresher spray” and can be used before or after make-up application. Apply 12″ from the face and spray evenly.
How I use it
Every morning after moisturising, I spritz this all over my face and apply my foundation while my skin is still a little damp from it. If you use liquid or high coverage foundations such as Estee Lauder Double Wear, Revlon ColourStay, Dermablend etc, you will find this fantastic for helping you blend your foundation into your skin more smoothly and evenly. After I have finished applying my foundation, I spritz my brush again to blend everything right in. I usually use some setting powder and I will spritz once more over my face to stop any cakiness forming from the powder. The end result is my foundation looks like it has been blended right into my skin, as opposed to just sitting on top.
Other uses for Fix+
I find it fantastic for using with eyeshadows, especially baked ones. Just spritz your eyeshadow brush before picking up any shadow, and the colour is so much more intensified on the lid.
It is also great for picking up loose pigments or glitter, as the Fix + acts like a bonding agent.
If you are heading out after work and need to refresh your makeup, a spray of this before you apply another light layer of foundation, really stops anything caking and really brightens and wakens up the skin.
If you like to use eyeshadows as eyeliners, use some on your angle brush and it will help you apply it more smoothly. As it is like a bonding agent, it will also help reduce any smudging throughout the day.
Seperate “brow shadows” are not needed for your brows, use an eye-shadow that matches your brow colour as close as possible and use Fix + on your angle brush. There will be no fall-out from the shadow and it will stay in place all day. Just use a clear mascara to tame any stray hairs.
To be honest I didn’t have high hopes for this but boy was I wrong. I find applying my foundation so much easier and the end result is really natural-looking skin. As I have dry / combination myself, I have no flakiness or dryness at all since using this as it’s giving an extra hydration boost to the skin.
Is this a product you need? Well no. You will survive perfectly well without it, but after you buy it you will be hooked! I am anyway. I really love the refreshing scent and also the packaging, as it has a little lock cap lid – really handy if you are carrying it around in your bag.
MAC Fix+ retails at €10.00 for the 10ml travel size or €20.00 for 100ml – which works out at much better value.
Do you have it? Have you tried it? Let me know!
Much love x
