I know I am pretty late with this review but I wanted to fully test out this mask before I posted my thoughts. We have all heard of the world famous GlamGlow masks and while they are on the pricey side, they still get rave reviews. Here’s how I got on:
In the GlamGlow family you have:
YouthMud Tingle Exfoliate Treatment
SuperMud Clearing Treatment
PowerMud Dual Cleanse
ThirstyMud Hydrating
BrightMud Eye Treatment
All masks are 50g except the SuperMud which is only 34g. I didn’t actually know this until after I bought it, but just so you know. I went for the SuperMud as a lot of the time I suffer from hormonal and cystic acne, I also had quite a lot of congestion around my nose and chin. I figured this would be the best choice as I had quite a few other face masks that could tackle moisture. I bought the mask from Cloud10 Beauty back in January. These guys are great and delivery is super quick!
So what is SuperMud all about? (Here comes the science part!)
It contains what’s called a “6 Acid Blend”. These include:
- Glycolic – Helps restore photo damaged skin and improves skin texture
- Salicylic – Helps de-clog to minimise pores and new skin rejuvenation
- Lactic – Helps pigmentation, moisture, stimulation and skin collagen
- Mandelic – Helps fine lines, wrinkles, ageing and skin elasticity
- Pyruvic – Helps the effects of scarring & clearer skin
- Azekaic – Helps fight follicle bacteria
You may of heard of it containing the “Pore-Matrix” system and basically this is activated charcoal. This is an extremely absorbing carbon and can extract masses of up to 500 times it’s weight from the skin, so it’s great at sucking out all those pesky blackheads. These are the little black dots you will see when the mask is drying. Looks gross but at least you know it’s working!
How I got on….
When I first used the mask, the first thing I was blown away by was the SIZE of it! It’s feckin tiny and I was thinking I would get 5 or 6 uses max before it ran out. With that in mind, I armed myself with a flat foundation brush to apply. If you just scoop it out with your fingers and gloop it on your face, you WILL only get 5 or 6 uses! By using the flat brush it’s not only more hygienic (something to keep in mind if you have spots!) but lets you use so much less and apply a nice thin layer to the skin. Ideally a fan brush would work better but that’s something I need to buy.
(on first look it seems like a sample size but this is full-size!)
(using a flat foundation brush or a fan brush will dramatically increase how much more uses you will get!)
To me, this smelled of liquorice! It was also quite tingly when applied but that went away after a minute or two. The mask takes about 10 minutes to set fully and yes, you can’t move your face after that! It’s the one thing I hate about clay masks. After the 10 minutes, I could see the black dots all around my face and cheek area – pulling out all that gunk!
Getting this off is another thing I didn’t like. It takes a lot of pulling and tugging on the skin which isn’t ideal, but it’s the only way to get it off. I found that if I used a warm face cloth and pressed it gently over my face it made it a lot easier to get off. I would use the damp cloth to buff it off the skin, rather than faffing around with cotton pads, it works a lot better.
Afterwards your skin definitely feels clean and I did notice over a few weeks that the congestion from my chin and nose had greatly reduced. The only thing I didn’t get from this mask was the “glow’! After each use my skin felt very tight and dry, so I needed a good rich moisturiser afterwards. I suppose this mask is not intended to give hydration, but for me, it didn’t give the glow everyone raves out for days after using it.
Would I buy it again?
Probably not. My reasons for this are, firstly, it’s very expensive for the size you receive. I am half-way through the jar after 5 months but that’s as I’m very careful with how much I use on each application. The other masks in the range offer a bit more for your buck with 50g as opposed to this one which is 34g. Secondly, I found I pretty much got the same results from the Boots Botanicals Ionic Clay Mask. It practically does the same thing and it’s very effective at drawing out all the dirt and gunk from the skin. It costs a mere €9.99 for 100ml so you are getting 3 times the amount! (This mask cost’s €52.00)
While I wouldn’t re-purchase this mask, I think I would still like to try the ThristyMud Hydrating one, but it will be something I will put on my never-ending wish list! If you think you would like to try any of these masks but don’t have the funds to hand, Littlewoods sell these and you can choose to pay per month as opposed to upfront.
Have you tried any GlamGlow masks and in particular the Boots Clay Mask, which I think is fantastic? How did you get on? Let me know in the comments!
(no reader was harmed in this blogpost by seeing me with this mask on my face!)
Thanks for reading, much love

I love my supermud, i’m nearly out though so i’ll have to give the boots one a go! Does it dry the same as the supermud??
Ye it dries the same and sucks out the gunk in the same way 🙂
Definitely picking it up so 🙂
I tried the Supermud for the first time the other day but used my hands! Will definitely be trying it with a foundation brush as I did only get a sample size so I want it to last as long as possible! I will also be picking up the Boots alternative as it’s so much more affordable. Great post really enjoyed it!
Thanks Caoimhe! Yes definitely try the brush, also got a tip the other day to wet the brush first too so you could try that x
Thirstymud is my favourite of the Glamglow masks I’ve tried but I like to use Supermud on spots to dry them out. The Boots mask sounds great! xx
I tried a few samples of this and wasn’t overly impressed – not enough to part with 52 quid anyway! Great tip about the foundation brush x

I love the super mud. I definitely feel the glow after and it pulls all the gunk out of my skin!
Skin feels so soft after. It’s expensive but I’ve never had a mask work as well!
