Charlotte Tilbury – Flawless Finish Powder Review

DSC_0128

A couple of weeks ago while stocking up on my MAC ProLongwear from Brown Thomas, I decided to throw a few extra bits into the basket. “It was Christmas” was the excuse I used, so I had a look around the Charlotte Tilbury section. I had heard so many fantastic reviews from lots of bloggers – mainly about her Magic Cream (which I’m sorry I ain’t paying €90 for!) and her eyeshadow quads, which look amazing! I decided to try out the Air Brush Flawless Finish Powder. I knew I was buying blindly. There are not too many reviews online for it, but it sounded perfect for a proper “good wear” powder when you need your foundation to look picture perfect all day.

Product description taken from the Charlotte Tilbury website.

• Soft Focus Nano-Particles blur away lines and imperfections, and sit like a soft micro-fine cashmere veil on top of your skin

• Rose wax and almond oil hydrate the skin through-out the day and smoothes flawlessly onto the skin

• Nourishing actives work to soothe and restore skin, while light-reflecting ingredients diffuse light as it hits your face for a luminous complexion and even finish all day

I opted for the shade Medium – 02. The light 01 shade looked like it might wash me out and unfortunately there was no translucent option. The packaging is no doubtably, a work of art. The powder is housed in a beautiful gold compact, which both feels and looks luxurious and also had a mirror inside. Sadly this is where the love for this product ended.

This powder feels extremely soft to touch and is very finely milled – so much so that it was actually hard to get a proper swatch on my hand to show you. It was the “Soft Focus Nano-Particles” that sold it for me, but nothing ended up being “softly focused” after using it.

I applied using a Real Techniques Setting Brush, focusing on my T-zone and using anything that was left over on the brush for the rest of my face. By midday my face was pretty shiny – nothing that I would be used to seeing with previous setting powders I have used. I don’t have oily skin – it’s very much on the dry side and just my t-zone usually acts up. Apart from the zero oil-control, this powder set into EVERY SINGLE fine line under my eyes. I aged 10 years in less than 10 hours! For a powder that promised to keep skin hydrated, I didn’t find it did that at all. It also started to emphasise pores around my nose area and just overall made my face look pretty crap.

It was by no means a cheap purchase, this powder retails at €42 for a standard 8g compact. It kills me to say, but I found better results from the Rimmel Stay Matte powder which costs less than €7! Other people may find great results from this product but honestly if you are looking to try something from Charlotte Tilbury and especially if you have oily skin, I would stay well away. Personally I think there are better products you can spend your €43 on. I’m disappointed I didn’t purchase an eyeshadow quad instead, perhaps I’ll try one a few months down the line.

I would love to know if you have tried this powder and if it worked for you? Drop me a comment below!

Much love,

Leanne xx

No, again it just didn’t suit me but may work on someone else. Just overpriced for what it is really.

I just think if you are going to splash out on something from her line, this may not be the best start. Really want to try the eye pencils though!

I had the exact same experience. Their was nothing airbrushed about it!Thought it was just me. Also bought the filmstar contour kit and don’t like thay either! I do love the lip liner in pillow talk the only thing I will repurchase

Did you Joanne? It just didn’t blow me away at all. Also found it oxidised as the day went on too. Something you rarely find in powders these days. Thank you for your comment x

I’m delighted it worked for your Tracey, what works for one person may just not work for another. I am really hoping to buy other products from her line, so I haven’t been totally put off. Thank you for your comment x

I love that your so honest about it, I find so many beauty bloggers just say a product is amazing when it’s not(in my opinion they either get the product for free from a pr person within the company or they are hoping

Oh NO. I’m really funny with foundations and powders – I have some of her lipstick & eyeshadow, and I’m happy with them, but they are not worth the price. The filmstar bronze & glow IS very much worth it, I’ve used it nearly every day since I got it, it’s great even for a novice like me. That’s awful that it didn’t really work, I have heard nothing but good about the Hourglass lighting powders – I’m sure you’d have absolutely no problem selling this on Adverts.ie, I’ve done that with a few disappointing high-end things before x

Thanks for that. I was thinking of selling on alright, as no doubt it will suit someone else. The filmstar bronze & glow looks AMAZING! So many people are raving about it.
