Back in December Blank Canvas announced their second eyeshadow palette after the very well received Pippa Palette. The Master Series One is described as having 11 velvety matte shades and one champagne shimmer shade, all wearable neutral brown colours. From the second I seen this blasted across social media, it looks like the perfect addition to my collection – I’m a total neutral eye girl!

Of course me being me, I decided to order on 21st December and as you can imagine it was sold out on the Blank Canvas website. So by doing a bit of Googling as you do, I found a stockist – CH Chemist in Tralee. Now I really have to mention how fantastic these guys were as I ordered so close to Christmas, was charged NO shipping fee and it arrived 2 days later via courier! Highly recommend them!

Now onto the palette itself. I’ve never tried the Pippa Palette but I do remember the one gripe that people had was the packaging and that there was no magnetic closure, that all seems to have been sorted with this. It’s good sturdy cardboard-type of packaging with a full-length mirror and shuts tight after use. It also contains a double-sided brush which has the E40 on one side for packing on colour and lining, the E41 on the other is for smudging and blending everything out. This brush is priced at €11.99 on their website so it’s great to get a brush that you will actually use.

This is however where the love falls short I’m afraid. Whilst the shades look amazing in the palette, the top line of shades are just to much alike, with the shades Lily, Core & Brazen all being so very faint and washed out. I know these are to be used as a base but I think one or the other would have been enough, and added in another shimmer shade. On the second row things are a bit better with my 3 most used shades being Cocoa, Downtown and Hickory with Corruption making a great eyeliner shade too.

My biggest gripe of all is how powdery these shadows are, like I mean fallout everywhere!! Now I have used some palettes before which has the same issue, one being the Smoky palette by Urban Decay, but those shadows were very buttery and blended so effortlessly, not with this palette. I found using these without a primer was a waste of time as the longevity was a few hours and I don’t even have oily lids. When I did use a primer, the shadows became even more of a chore to blend! I changed brushes, used one that were more fluffy, more soft but the texture of these shadow are just far too dry and powdery for my liking.

Overall would I recommend the palette?? I’m sorry to say no I wouldn’t, and for it being priced at €34.99 I think there are palettes out there that are of much better quality for that price point. For about a tenner more you can get something from Urban Decay which has never disappointed me, I’ve also used Sleek and Seventeen for just a tenner and they blend like a dream.

Sorry Blank Canvas, your brushes are amazing but I think some major thought needs to go into your shadow formulation for the future especially at this price.
