It’s the job we all hate doing, the dreaded weekly brush cleaning. While it’s easy to spot clean brushes as we go during the week, they do need a deep clean to keep them to avoid bacteria and product building up. There is no better feeling than applying your makeup with lovely fresh fluffy brushes! I’ve gone through various different methods for brush cleaning, but I have finally found a product that beats them all hands down AND it’s really affordable!
Dr. Bronner’s All-in-One Soap (or Magic Soap as it’s also called!) had been around for over 65 years. Founded by a third generation soap-maker Emanual Bronner, it’s a favourite among celebrities such as Lady Gaga and Gwyneth Paltrow to name a few.

What makes Dr. Bronners Soap different from your regular soap? Well it’s 100% natural, vegetable based, bio-degradable, certified Fair Trade and suitable for vegans. The reason it is called an All-in-One soap is that it can be used to clean practically ANYTHING! They have been aptly named the “Swiss Army Knife” of cleaning in that they can be used to wash face, hair and body, laundry, dishes, pets and even your oven hob! While effective, it still remains completely mild and can even be used on babies. This makes the perfect brush cleaner as it cuts through the greasy residue from foundation and eyeliners with hardly any effort and you can be assured that it is not going to damaged the bristles.
Below I have washed some brushes just to show you. In under just 1 minute they were all completely sparkly clean and even the foundation brush required minimal effort to remove foundation build-up.
(brushes before washing, usual foundation and eyeshadow)
(the bar allows you to swirl the bristles along the sides, especially good for foundation residue)
(squeaky clean brushes in record time!)
(usually foundation brushes take the longest to clean, but within seconds it turned out as brand new, with no harshness to the bristles)
This is my second bottle of the liquid soap and you can get it in different variations of key ingredients that produce different scents. I personally love the Tea Tree Oil especially for brush cleaning as it is naturally anti-bacterial which is exactly what you want and especially so if you are acne prone. There is also Lavender, Rose, Peppermint just to name a few.
I recently received some samples of the bars to try and having never used them before, I actually prefer it to liquid for brush washing as you can really swirl the bristles in and around the bar – great for bigger brushes!
I honestly don’t think I will use anything else for a brush cleaner again, seriously this stuff is amazing and soooo affordable too! The liquid retails for around €7.99 and the bar around €3.99. You won’t find these in your local pharmacy or Tesco – pop into any Health Food store or usually T.K. Maxx keep them in stock too.

Anything that makes the whole effort of cleaning make up brushes that bit quicker and easier is definitely very much welcomes and this does exactly that!
Thanks for reading, much love,
